Save a rep and review it in slow motion

By David Balderston, developer of Video Delay · Updated

Watching a delayed replay and saving a video are separate actions. Video Delay Instant Replay Cam by David Balderston keeps recent camera video briefly for playback; a rep is kept only when you choose Save rep. It is $4.99 once in the U.S. App Store, with no subscription or in-app purchases.

Save the rep you just watched

  1. In Settings, choose the saved rep length: 5, 10, 15 or 30 seconds.
  2. Set the camera delay and perform a test movement. Choose a saved length that covers the movement you want, rather than assuming it records your whole session.
  3. After watching the delayed replay, tap Save rep to keep the recent section of the replay.
  4. Open the saved rep from the film button to check that you kept the moment you intended.

The camera delay (1–60 seconds) and saved clip length (5–30 seconds) are different settings. A 60-second viewing delay does not mean a 60-second saved clip. Save promptly after watching the rep; continuous replay is not an archive of every earlier attempt.

Review slowly and check a frame

Open a saved rep, then use playback speeds down to ⅛×, frame-step buttons or the scrubber. Capture at 30, 60, 120 or 240 fps where your camera supports it. Choosing ⅛× playback does not create frames the camera did not capture; higher capture rates can help show fast motion, but availability varies by device, lens and conditions.

Tap the pencil to draw a line, angle or circle. Drag the points to adjust it. Lines display an angle, and drawings stay in place for your next session. Keep the device position consistent if you want the overlay to be a useful visual reference. These are manual drawings, not automatic biomechanical measurements or a form score.

Keep an optional copy in Photos

To put saved reps in Photos too, enable Also save reps to Photos in Settings and allow the requested Photos access. The in-app library and Photos are separate places to check for a saved rep. If your device uses iCloud Photos, Apple’s Photos settings control what happens to the copy you add there.

Open the saved clip to check that the movement you wanted is included before finishing the session.
